• As part of the mission of Holmes Chapel Methodist Church, a strong link is maintained
  with Barnabus

• Barnabus is a Manchester Christian charity working with homeless people,
and people in the red light district

• Staff and volunteers help provide shower facilities, food, drink and blankets

• The Beacon Drop-in Centre opens 5 days a week to provide a lifeline to over
350 people, many of whom have severe addictions or mental health problems

• In addition, Barnabus helps people find shelter and obtain ID, and assists them
  with benefit
or housing issues

• Barnabus has a medical suite with voluntary NHS nurses

• Weekly activities include classes in Maths, English, cookery and IT skills, in
addition to tending an allotment and joining in a street soccer project

• Barnabus is entirely funded by donations. This can be money or the food,
clothing and toiletries collected by Holmes Chapel Methodist Church and others

• Holmes Chapel is a Fairtrade church
which means that whenever refreshments are
served, they are from Fairtrade sources

• Regular Fairtrade events are held in the church  –  to spread interest and awareness,
and motivate the congregation to buy Fairtrade produce in their regular shopping

• We have a monthly sale of Fairtrade items after worship

More to Life?

This group is for women who ask ‘is there more to life than this’.

We enjoy a mix of light-hearted and more thought-provoking evenings.  We have hilarious games evenings and have a go at card-making, learn about stress management, discuss the changing role of women previously and now, and enjoy a Christmas meal together.

When we first tried Circle Dancing, it was so much enjoyed that several members went on to  travel to a special class each month.  We are now looking forward to their tuition of the rest of us!

This is not just another social group.  Instead, we are there to provide mutual support and encouragement as we explore various aspects of life, taking a look at the glimpses of God we see in those aspects and allowing safe exploration of spirituality for women of all faiths and none.

We are always grateful to those who have led evenings, inspired us with their stories, and made us laugh, think and learn.
