The Trinity team ready to walk round Tittesworth Reservoir for Christian AidTrinity’s Enid Munro and Dennis Wood, accompanied by Neil Munro, joined the annual sponsored walk around Tittesworth Reservoir, near Leek, to raise funds in support of Christian Aid.

In the days leading up to the event, the weather had continued relentlessly wet but, as luck would have it, on the day of the walk the weather started bright and sunny and continued dry to the end.

As usual there was a good crowd of people ready to set off at the official start time of 10.00, though quite a few people we met on the way looked like sponsored walkers who had set off earlier.  Being keen young things, the three of us wanted to get to the front of the crowd and press ahead! We managed to slide through almost to the starting tape and then made a succession of nifty overtakes.

On the 2024 Christian Aid walk round TittesworthNeil had one of his regular lapses of memory and managed to leave his walking boots behind. That meant the walk had to be done in trainers. However, the path round Tittesworth has been so much improved over the years that trainers turned out to be a viable option, despite the occasional gloopy bit.

Dennis registering at the check-in / check-out tentWe arrived back at the check-in tent in under 2 hours, still whole in body and mind, though it was noticeable how much less speedy the 2nd half of our walk had been.

Those of us who are keen on counting the number of steps we manage to do each day were able to relax, secure in the knowledge that we had exceeded the standard target of 10,000 by quite some way. We reckon our walk, which was a bit longer than the standard route, was 6 or more miles long.

Many thanks to everyone who sponsored Enid and Dennis. Between them, they've raised about £500.  A splendid effort.

Footnote: John Bamford and his team have organised this walk for many years, initially at Trentham Gardens and in recent years at Tittesworth, raising well over a million pounds for Christian Aid. Last year’s walk raised just over £30,000. Next year’s walk will take place at Tittesworth on Saturday 29th March – put the date in your diary now!
